What water tests are needed?
Whether you want to know if your water is safe to drink or you want to filter/treat your water to improve it, you need a report card with certain physico-chemical and microbiological parameters. But what are they?
Below, the necessary water analysis in the case of borehole or surface water, treated or untreated, from own or controlled source. With this list you can go to any laboratory for water testing. This list is not complete, but only a minimum list to be able to propose water filtration and treatment equipment. You can add any parameter you wish to the list below.
- Color
- Smells
- pH/Temperature
- Turbidity
- Conductivity
- Free residual chlorine
- Permanganate index/Oxidizability
- Chlorides
- Hardness (usually expressed in German degrees)
- Total iron
- Nitrites
- Nitrates
- Ammonium
- Mangan
- Sodium
- Sulphates
- Sulphides and hydrogen sulphide
- Number of colonies at 37 °C
- Number of colonies at 22 °C
- Coliform bacteria (total coliforms)
- Escherichia coli (faecal coliforms)
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Intestinal enterococci (fecal streptococci)
- Anaerobic sulfite-reducing bacteria (Clostridia)
