Where do we use and for what?
GAC is used in combination with automatic filters or with Big Blue filter housings.
The applications of activated charcoal are multiple:
- chlorine removal for residential, commercial and industrial areas;
- removal of organics, chlorine, trihalomethanes, benzene, chloroform, herbicides, pesticides, trichloroethylene etc (over 90 chemicals are filtered by GAC).

GAC operating conditions:
*The feed water must be free of oils or suspensions
*The feed water must be free of iron and turbidity for the longest possible running time
* pH range: works smoothly over a wide range
*Bed width: 20-30 inches
*Flow rate: 5 gpm/ sq.ft
*Flow required for backwashing: 10 - 12 gpm / sq.ft. (for automatic filters)
*Space for charcoal bed expansion: 30 - 40 % of bed depth (for automatic filters)
Precautions in use:
Do not use with microbiologically unsafe water. Do not use with bacteriologically contaminated water!
